I received an email from a cousin of mine explaining that she was so excited about a new blog that she was starting. Knowing her and her ability to find humor in just about everything, I knew it would be quite a hoot! Well, when I logged on to check out her blogs, I realized that I too had a blog from way back in the day (last year) from when we had just bought our first home and were getting ready to tie the knot! So I figure it’s time that I picked up where we left off.
7 months post wedding - The best Christmas present ever!
It was November 2008, about the time that you start searching the ads for Christmas ideas so you have SOMETHING to tell your family when they ask the daunting question, “What do you want for Christmas this year?” I knew the question was coming but I could only find one honest answer…and that was a BABY!! I mean, I knew we had just gotten married and we wanted to travel, do fun things, blah blah blah before we had kids but for some reason, I couldn’t get the idea out of my head. In fact, I wanted kids for a looong time! I thought there would be nothing more fun in life than a little boomerang (my nickname growing up) running around the house in diapers chasing the dog! Who wouldn’t want that?! Well, I knew that one day the time would come when Jered would decide it was time to start a family of our own. And I was waiting patiently, waiting for God’s always perfect timing.
Well, on this one particular November day Jered asks, “what do you want for Christmas this year?” and in my head my immediate response was…a baby. I think he read my mind because he then said, “and don’t ask for an iphone and don’t ask for a baby!” DARN! There goes that idea! So I responded with the usual, maybe some new sweat pants, perfume and a new CD. Little did I know he was scheming up a little something that would soon change our life forever!
Christmas morning came and it was time to open presents! I had him open his gifts first, the new CALL OF DUTY PS2 game, projection screen for the basement and…well, I’m not quite sure what else I got him. He obviously trumped me on the gifts giving that year. Then it was my turn. He handed me a box and inside the box was a watch. Now, at the time he purchased the watch he hadn’t considered giving me any other gift, besides the iphone that he had given me the previous month as an early Christmas present. But this particular Christmas morning, he felt the watch was a sign (we’re not really into reading signs, but he just had a strong feeling about the meaning behind this watch)…THAT IT WAS TIME! Not knowing that I had any other gifts to unwrap, Jered gets up and says, “Hold on just a second.” He comes back and hands me what seems like a wad of paper. I un wrap this so-called gift and to my surprise it’s a little something telling me that IT WAS TIME TO HAVE A BABY!!! We spend a few moments and prayer and petition to the Lord and ask that he guide us in this new journey we were about to embark on! And 9 months later, the best Christmas Present that I had ever been given arrives, CAIDEN WALTER STEPHENS 9/28/2009! 7lbs even 19 inches even - What a miracle!
